Why promising nothing delivers more and planning always fails

Houston, we have a problem! While we as technical consultants bitch and moan about our clients not understanding us and demanding the impossible in ridiculously short time, people outside the business (ie our clients) are wondering what the hell we're doing. How is it possible for the insane failure rate in IT projects to just continue?
